In the last decade of the nineteenth and early years of the twentieth century, as America came upon historical anniversaries, expositions and commemorative celebrations were created to instill public pride. The Jamestown Tercentennial Exposition was one of these large celebrations commemorating the three hundredth anniversary of the founding of Jamestown and the Virginia Colony. The celebration was held at Sewell’s Point in Norfolk, Virginia, from April 26 to November 30, 1907. Among many dignitaries who visited the exposition were U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, Mark Twain and Booker T. Washington. This collection includes postcards and other materials from the celebration.
